S Scale American Flyer Model Trains
American Flyer was established in 1910 by releasing a couple of clockwork model trains. The company reached the height of its popularity during the 20s after they have released a couple of electric powered model trains. But the company was unable to survive the Great Depression and the company was sold to A. C. Gilbert Company in 1938. A.C. Gilbert was able to have relative success with American Flyer but they too became bankrupt in 1967. The company was handed to Lionel – a long rival of the American Flyer. The company also became bankrupt a few years later and manufacturing rights along with tooling was sold to different investors. American Flyer is now owned by Lionel LLC.
S scale American Flyer was introduced to the public during the 30s before the company was officially sold to A. C. Gilbert Company. S scale of American Flyer was then reintroduced during the 60s as electric powered S scale model trains. The S scale model trains of American flyer are thought more of a collector’s item because of its rarity even if it was manufactured during the 60s under A. C. Gilbert Company. The S scale American Flyers are well followed by its enthusiasts because of its significant role in the S Scale industry
