OO Scale Airfix Railway Model Trains
Airfix is a popular brand for model toys established in 1939. The company was founded by Nicholas Kove in UK starting with inflatable toys. The company started its business with modeling kits in 1949 by producing tractors, vintage cars and planes. It was only in during the 60s that the company expanded their line of products which included model scales. Unfortunately, the company experienced decline during the 80s due to the decreasing demand for different model scales. The company was sold to Humbrol in 1986. After 20 years since the Airfix acquisition, Humbrol faced financial problems. Airfix was again sold to the current owners, Hornby.
Airfix is mainly known for their HO and OO scale models. But Airfix, as a UK based manufacturer, was more focused on the OO scale model. They are known for releasing easy to assemble model kits complete with railways in the OO scale. However, they only started releasing formal scale models (instead of toys) in 1975. The model trains that were developed during the late 70s and the beginning of the 80s were among the finest model scales of the original Airfix. Through their model scale, the company was also credited for the MTC or Multiple Train Control System which is useful for controlling two or more model trains on rails.
